After Peter Jackson\u2019s Lord of the Rings film series turned Gollum into one of the most iconic screen characters of all time, the corrupted hobbit is getting his own unexpected video game spin-off, titled The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.<\/p>\n

And now a new trailer for the Middle Earth spin-off, shown at\u00a0The Game Awards 2021<\/a>, has given fans a proper look at what Daedalic Entertainment and NACON are hoping to achieve with the action game.<\/p>\n

As you might have guessed from the title, this game puts you in the role of Gollum!\u00a0And with the former hobbit on the hunt for the missing ring, the new trailer shows players dodging every breed of monster found in Tolkien\u2019s epic fantasy series.<\/p>\n\n<p>Considering that most Lord of the Rings games are usually focused on the sword-slashing antics of Aragorn and co, this game will certainly offer a fresh approach to JRR Tolkien\u2019s beloved fantasy world.<\/p>\n<p>The timing is great for this game too given that we\u2019re also getting the franchise\u2019s <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/news\/on-demand\/2020-01-28\/lord-of-the-rings-amazon-tv\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener noopener noreferrer\" noreferrer=\"\">first live-action TV series from Amazon in 2022.<\/a> Without further ado, here\u2019s what we know about Lord of the Rings: Gollum game so far\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><strong>When is the Lord of the Rings: Gollum game release date?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Middle Earth spin-off won\u2019t hit shelves until sometime in <strong>the first quarter of 2022<\/strong> \u2013 so there\u2019s still a bit of a wait. Gamers will play as the character\u2019s original hobbit form Sm\u00e9agol at first, and then his more familiar counterpart Gollum as he becomes corrupted by the One Ring.
