Marvel villain Kingpin made a surprise comeback in Disney Plus<\/a> series Hawkeye<\/a>, having previously served as the antagonist in Netflix<\/a>\u2018s Daredevil.<\/p>\n

Vincent D\u2019Onofrio reprised the role, but given the ongoing debate about the canonicity of the Netflix shows within the MCU, fans have been debating whether Hawkeye\u2019s Wilson Fisk is the same character as appeared in the former show or a new take on the character simply played by the same actor.<\/p>\n

Well, according to D\u2019Onofrio himself, they\u2019re one and the same (which means Daredevil is canon \u2013 and so it should be).<\/p>

\u201cI think he\u2026 you know, from knowing what we\u2019ve shot, I think he\u2019s grown,\u201d D\u2019Onofrio \u2013 speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> \u2013 said of his portrayal of crime lord Fisk in Hawkeye. \u201cHe\u2019s definitely stronger than he was in Daredevil, in terms of his actual physical strength.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut emotionally and how he feels about what he\u2019s owed, and what his goals are in life, I think they\u2019re the same. I still use the emotional background that I\u2019ve always used for him. So he still speaks through that, for sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn many ways than not, he is pretty much the same as he was before.\u201d<\/p>\n

D\u2019Onofrio revealed that he was first approach by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige about reprising the role of Kingpin earlier in 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess Kevin [Feige] called me\u2026 the beginning of this year, I think.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if I was surprised. I was definitely happy that they did, because I like playing the character so much. So, yeah, he said, \u2018We want to bring you into this Hawkeye show.\u2019 And, yeah, so I was thrilled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to continue playing the character. I think there\u2019s a lot to be done with that character, and this just\u2026 You know, he talked me through what might happen in the show at that point early on, and what they thought might happen, and how I would be used.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew that I would enjoy playing the character, and it sounded like a great opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The final episode of Hawkeye ended on an ambiguous note for D\u2019Onofrio\u2019s Fisk, as his his prot\u00e9g\u00e9 and adoptive niece Maya (Alaqua Cox) pulled a gun on him \u2013 though the camera cut away as we heard a shot ring out.<\/p>\n
