The Doctor and her companions trapped in a time loop, being hunted by Daleks \u2013 doesn\u2019t exactly sound like a barrel of laughs, does it?<\/p>\n

But according to Doctor Who<\/a> star Mandip Gill, the show\u2019s New Year\u2019s Day special Eve of the Daleks \u2013 which does, of course, feature guest spots from comedy stars Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon \u2013 is in fact \u201cthe funniest episode\u201d of the Jodie Whittaker era.<\/p>\n

Gill has described the special as a \u201cstandalone episode\u201d and so \u201ca really easy access point for anyone that perhaps didn\u2019t watch the series or has never watched Doctor Who\u201d (who are these people?!).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s full of adventure, there\u2019s a lot at stake, particularly for the Doctor but it\u2019s also the funniest episode we\u2019ve done,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s lots of humour, there\u2019s lots of warmth, romance, and then there\u2019s this really cool storyline in which the gang are stuck in a time loop against the Daleks and unless they break the time loop it\u2019s not going to look good for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really nice, essentially easy watch but not because there is a lot at stake but at the same time, having come off the back of Flux which has been quite an intense series, it\u2019s a little bit different for people.\u201d<\/p>\n

This chimes with what we\u2019ve heard previously from Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall, who previously described Eve of the Daleks as \u201cbasically a romantic comedy<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe episode is basically a romantic comedy where the obstacle to the romance is not only the characters themselves, but the threat of Daleks,\u201d he told Doctor Who Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut there\u2019s still a big, fun, sci-fi concept at the heart of it. It\u2019s got the range of tones, the range of scares, the range of humour, and the range of mystery that you\u2019d want on New Year\u2019s Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eve of the Daleks traps the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her friends in a festive time loop, hunted by Daleks over and over again in their own personal Groundhog Day.<\/p>
