Showrunner Russell T Davies\u2019 return to Doctor Who<\/a> will usher in a new chapter for the hit BBC sci-fi series, along with a new lead.<\/p>\n

The next Doctor will take up the mantle after the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, bows out following a trio of specials in 2022, with the first airing on New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

While fans have plenty to say when it comes to who could and should replace Whittaker, the actress herself has also revealed who her top pick for the job would be: Lydia West.<\/p>\n

Outgoing Doctor Whittaker shared her take during an appearance on Kids Ask, a feature in which children ask questions adults probably wouldn\u2019t get away with, on BBC Radio 1 earlier this month, saying: \u201cI\u2019m going to pick an actress who I think is really exciting and I think would be phenomenal, an actress called Lydia West \u2013 if I had the power!\u201d<\/p>\n

And, with the clip being shared on the BBC\u2019s official Instagram<\/a> page, Davies has responded, simply commenting: \u201cNoted.\u201d<\/div>\n

Davies recently said auditions for the role of the next Doctor were \u201cjust starting\u201d, telling The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cWe have genuinely not cast anyone yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, as her name began to be thrown around in conversations among Whovians, Lydia West previously told RadioTimes.com it would be \u201can honour\u201d to join Doctor Who<\/a> and follow in Whittaker\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact I\u2019ve been named as one of the favourites is quite special,\u201d she said. \u201cSo it would be an honour to be the Doctor. I\u2019m glad people think I could do it!\u201d<\/p>\n
