Sony has confirmed that its next virtual reality headset will be called the PlayStation VR2, and fans have already taken to shortening that down to PSVR 2. But when is the release date for this PS5 VR headset, and what will its price point be?<\/p>\n

Both of those questions have been left unanswered by official sources, but rumours and predictions are filling up the web at pace. PSVR 2 seems to be a product that lots of people are looking forward to, but we\u2019ve got a feeling that it won\u2019t come cheap.<\/p>\n

One thing we do know is that the PSVR 2 headset will work exclusively with PS5<\/a>, so you\u2019ll need to buy one of these new consoles (if you haven\u2019t already) if you wish to keep up with Sony\u2019s VR future.<\/p>\n

The PSVR 2 release date is yet to be confirmed, but rumours on the internet seem to suggest that we could be looking at 2023<\/strong> rather than 2022 for the PS5 VR headset to launch.<\/p>\n

When Sony announced PSVR 2 last year, the company did say: \u201cThere\u2019s still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it won\u2019t be launching in 2021.\u201d Now that we\u2019re in 2022, it would be nice to get a confirmed date \u2013 or at least a window to aim for \u2013 and we\u2019ll be sure to let you know if anything does get announced on that front.<\/p>\n

How much is the PSVR 2 price?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The PSVR 2 price has not been revealed yet, but prognosticators on the web have predict that it could cost over \u00a3300 GBP here in the UK. This sounds about right to us.<\/p>\n

After all, the original PSVR PS4 headset was recently sold in a \u2018Mega Pack<\/a>\u2018 bundle, with four games, at a price of \u00a3299.99. With all the new tech in the PSVR 2, we\u2019d expect it to cost more than that, even before you start adding games into the mix.<\/p>\n

In a recent PlayStation blog post<\/a>, following the big Sony presentation at CES 2022, several key features were confirmed for the PSVR 2. There were four main items that Sony pulled out for discussion.<\/p>\n

First up, you can expect improved visual fidelity<\/strong>, with Sony stating that PSVR 2 \u201coffers 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, and foveated rendering. With an OLED display, players can expect a display resolution of 2000\u00d72040 per eye and smooth frame rates of 90\/120Hz.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sony also shouted about headset-based controller tracking<\/strong>, saying the new headset \u201ctracks you and your controller through integrated cameras embedded in the VR headset. Your movements and the direction you look at are reflected in-game without the need for an external camera.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will also be new sensory features<\/strong> including \u201ceye tracking, headset feedback, 3D Audio, and the innovative PS VR2 Sense controller [which work together] to create an incredibly deep feeling of immersion.<\/p>\n

And for anyone that has fiddled around with the multitude of cables that came with the PS4-era VR headset, there was one piece of particularly great news: \u201c[The new headset] will connect to PS5 with a single cord<\/strong> to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience.\u201d<\/p>
