Line of Duty star Craig Parkinson had a key role in Doctor Who: Flux<\/a>, playing the villainous Grand Serpent throughout the run.<\/p>\n

The actor made quite an impression in the role, which Chris Chibnall said had been specifically written for him<\/a>, and recently there have been a few rather outlandish rumours that he could return to the show as a different character \u2013 replacing the outgoing Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor.<\/p>

After he was asked about the possibility during an appearance on This Morning in early December, Parkinson answered \u201cI can\u2019t say anything\u201d \u2013 but he\u2019s now commented further in an interview in the latest issue of Radio Times magazine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what they are, rumours,\u201d he said, before adding that there\u2019s another iconic role on the sci-fi show that he might be more suited to.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoever steps into those shoes, they\u2019re big shoes to fill,\u201d he said. \u201cI would probably prefer to be playing the Master than the Doctor and, if I was doing it right, cause a few tears before bedtime.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the same interview, Parkinson revealed that taking part in the recent season was particularly rewarding to him because it was great for his 10-year-old son Hardy to be able to watch him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not impressed that his dad is an actor, not one bit, so I\u2019ve always longed to do something he can watch,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s why Doctor Who is a bit of a dream.\u201d<\/p>\n
