After Life\u2019s Ricky Gervais has said that he doesn\u2019t think \u201canything can compete\u201d with making television for Netflix, revealing that terrestrial channels can\u2019t give him the same amount of freedom and global audience as the streamer.<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Radio Times Podcast<\/a>, Gervais said that he has nothing against the likes of BBC One and ITV, but he wasn\u2019t sure whether he would make a show for terrestrial television in the future, saying that \u201cit doesn\u2019t quite suit [him]\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI like to do my own thing and be left alone and traditionally to get that final edit and be left alone, I had to compromise a bit on where I went. I went to BBC Two instead of BBC One because I could make the show I wanted more and BBC One would interfere, I think.<\/p>\n \u201cI went to Channel 4 instead of ITV, I went to HBO instead of NBC. But then Netflix come along and say, \u2018We don\u2019t interfere either, we\u2019re the biggest platform in the world, you\u2019ll get more viewers. We don\u2019t interfere. You get more money.\u2019 It\u2019s a no-brainer.\u201d<\/p> He continued: \u201cI don\u2019t think anything can compete with the freedom and the business model that Netflix give me at the moment. But if they did, I\u2019d consider it.<\/p>\n \u201cIf suddenly the BBC gave me the same deal as Netflix\u2026 I can\u2019t imagine they could. But no, I\u2019ve got nothing against terrestrial television at all.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s global as well. Netflix is automatically global. It just ticks every single box for me at the moment. So, there\u2019s no principle involved.
