The actor explains his decision to quit the BBC soap after nine years. <\/p>
Danny Dyer has confirmed he will be leaving EastEnders<\/a> after nine years in the shoes of Mick Carter.<\/p>\n Dyer has faced many a challenge as Mick, including his wife Linda\u2019s harrowing battle with alcoholism and dealing with the trauma of childhood abuse.<\/p>\n Sadly, it looks like Mick\u2019s time in Walford is up, and though the details about when and how we will be bidding goodbye to the soap have yet to be revealed, the actor himself has explained his reasons for leaving.<\/p>\n Read on for everything we know about Dyer\u2019s EastEnder exit.<\/p>\n During a chat with daughter Dani on their Sorted with the Dyers podcast<\/a>, Dyer explained why he was leaving the soap, making sure to stress that he would like to leave the door open for a potential return in future.<\/p>\n \u201cLet me tell you something \u2013 Mick\u2019s exit is going to be a very, very powerful thing. I would love the door to be left open, and as far as I know it is,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cSo who knows. When I go out there and I fail miserably I can come back with my tail between my legs and go, \u2018Will you take me back?’\u201d<\/p>\n The actor also denied claims he had signed a million-pound deal with Sky during the same chat. \u201cThe big news is I\u2019ve decided not to renew my contract,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat\u2019s all. That\u2019s not because I\u2019ve fallen out with anybody \u2013 I love everybody. That job has been amazing for me. It\u2019s an important part of television. I\u2019m grateful for the beautiful years I\u2019ve had there. I\u2019m going to miss the people massively. It\u2019s me taking a risk.\u201d<\/p>\n He stressed: \u201cThere\u2019s no big story around it, really. Other than the fact I\u2019ve decided to go off and try some other stuff. I\u2019m 44 now, and I\u2019ve had nine years of playing Mick and I think he needs to be rested. I\u2019m still looking for that defining role. Maybe it is there, maybe it isn\u2019t. But I\u2019ve always been quite ambitious and I had quite a long career before I went into EastEnders.<\/p>\n \u201cI know the landscape has changed slightly but I want to go out there and have another go, and the only way I can do that is if I decide to walk away from the job.\u201d<\/p> It\u2019s unclear at this stage when exactly Danny Dyer will be leaving the soap, but we do know his exit is set to take place later this year.<\/p>\n A spokesperson said in a statement\u00a0that Dyer would be leaving \u201cwhen his contract comes to an end later this year\u201d.<\/p>\n It continued: \u201cDanny has made Mick Carter an iconic character which we shall always be grateful for, however we won\u2019t be saying goodbye just yet as there\u2019s still quite some time \u2013 and plenty of explosive drama for Mick \u2013 to come before he departs Walford.\u201d<\/p>\n Considering he recently split from Linda and went through a pretty rough Christmas, we don\u2019t doubt it.<\/p>\n Visit our dedicated\u00a0EastEnders\u00a0<\/a>page for all the latest news, interviews and spoilers.
