Jodie Whittaker\u2019s final episode of Doctor Who<\/a> is set to air on BBC One in autumn 2022, with the identity of the next Doctor<\/a> the subject of much speculation amongst fans.<\/p>\n

One popular name in fandom is T\u2019Nia Miller, with series devotees suggesting the Years and Years star as the perfect candidate to replace Whittaker.<\/p>\n

RadioTimes.com<\/a> caught up with Miller recently to discuss her new role in AMC\u2019s treasure hunt drama La Fortuna<\/a> and couldn\u2019t resist putting the big question to her \u2013 does she want to be the next Doctor?<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be incredible,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m obviously a fan, I\u2019m a Whovian too, and more than that I just adore Russell\u2019s writing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Having revived the series to great acclaim in 2005, Russell T Davies is returning to his showrunner post for Doctor Who\u2019s 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Miller\u2019s work with Davies on his 2019 BBC series Years and Years is at least part of the reason why her name has come up in fan conversations, though she\u2019s not convinced that the award-winning writer will go the obvious route.<\/p>

\u201cI don\u2019t think Russell will go with the expected choice, let me put it that way,\u201d she said. \u201cBut whoever that person is, you\u2019re all gonna fall in love with them, because it will be the absolute right person.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s A Sin stars Olly Alexander and Lydia West<\/a> have also seen their names rise up the bookies\u2019 odds alongside Miller\u2019s, but Miller suggested that the part might go to a relative unknown actor, similar to Matt Smith\u2019s casting in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt might be someone that you don\u2019t even know, because Russell is very good at doing that \u2013 making people\u2019s careers. He made mine. Him and other people, but he was certainly instrumental. I wouldn\u2019t be sitting here talking to you today if it wasn\u2019t for Russell T Davies taking a gamble.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Having won rave reviews for her performances in Years and Years (2019) and The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), T\u2019Nia Miller\u2019s next project sees her tackle a \u201cvicious\u201d character in an all-star drama also featuring Stanley Tucci and Clarke Peters.<\/p>\n

Miller can next be seen in La Fortuna, the first television series from Oscar-winning writer\/director Alejandro Amen\u00e1bar (The Others, The Sea Inside) \u2013 filmed in Spain, this dual-language thriller follows young diplomat \u00c1lex Ventura (\u00c1lvaro Mel) as he works to recover an underwater shipwreck seized by treasure hunter Frank Wild (Stanley Tucci), with Miller cast as Wild\u2019s formidable lawyer Susan McLean.<\/p>\n
