{"id":9900,"date":"2022-01-13T13:20:26","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T12:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1548043"},"modified":"2022-01-13T13:55:08","modified_gmt":"2022-01-13T12:55:08","slug":"doctor-who-animations-of-lost-episodes-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/doctor-who-animations-of-lost-episodes-cancelled\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor Who animations of lost episodes \u2018cancelled\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By David Craig\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 13 January 2022 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>The remaining Doctor Who animated specials, which have been restoring lost episodes for a new generation, have reportedly been scrapped by the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>The latest entries in the series of releases include last year\u2019s <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-evil-of-the-daleks-animation-newsupdate\/&quot;\">The Evil of the Daleks<\/a> and <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-william-hartnell-returns-galaxy-4-newsupdate\/&quot;\">Galaxy 4<\/a>, following Patrick Troughton\u2019s Second Doctor and William Hartnell\u2019s First Doctor respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The collaborative project between BBC Studios and BBC America had made much progress towards giving die-hard Whovians a complete library of stories, but that looks as if it might now be cut short.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">The Mirror<\/a> reports that BBC America has pulled its funding from the project, meaning only the one story already in development will be released this year: The Abominable Snowmen (which recently dropped a <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-abominable-snowmen-animated-newsupdate\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">teaser trailer<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>BBC Studios declined to comment on the story when approached by\u00a0<a href=\"&quot;http:\/\/RadioTimes.com&quot;\">RadioTimes.com<\/a>.<\/p> <p>If the report proves to be true, no doubt it will provoke an outcry from <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-2022-specials-release\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Doctor Who<\/a> fans, for whom the missing episodes are a long-standing frustration.<\/p>\n<p>Certain Doctor Who serials have been left incomplete due to the archiving practices of the \u201960s and \u201970s, which saw numerous programmes deleted for logistical reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, audio of all the missing episodes remains thanks to the diligence of the show\u2019s fans, a number of whom have donated their recordings to the restoration effort.<\/p>\n<p>If BBC America has withdrawn its support of the Doctor Who animated specials, it\u2019s possible that another funder could step in to save the project.<\/p>\n<p>Among the candidates is streaming service <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/streaming\/britbox\/&quot;\">BritBox<\/a>, which has become a haven for Doctor Who fans with its vast library of classic episodes, as well as the animated specials released thus far.<\/p>\n<p>The strongest way to make a case for future entries in the series would be to throw support behind upcoming edition <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-guide\/the-abominable-snowmen\/&quot;\">The Abominable Snowmen<\/a>, which is currently scheduled for release on <a href=\"\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Doctor-Who-Abominable-Snowmen-DVD\/dp\/B09M7QJR1S?tag=radtim0b-21&amp;ascsubtag=radiotimes-0&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;sponsored&quot; noopener noreferrer\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\">DVD<\/a>, <a href=\"\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Doctor-Who-Abominable-Snowmen-Blu-ray\/dp\/B09M7RC3B7?tag=radtim0b-21&amp;ascsubtag=radiotimes-0&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;sponsored&quot; noopener noreferrer\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\">Blu-ray<\/a> and <a href=\"\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Doctor-Who-Abominable-Snowmen-Steelbook\/dp\/B09M7QT7BL?tag=radtim0b-21&amp;ascsubtag=radiotimes-0&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;sponsored&quot; noopener noreferrer\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\">Steelbook<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doctor Who animated specials are available to stream on BritBox.
