Magazine<\/em> readers transcribed 17,456 records in one day during our annual <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/transcription-tuesday-2022\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Transcription Tuesday<\/a> volunteer event.<\/p>\n<p>Our sixth Transcription Tuesday took place on 1 February 2022 and supported four non-profit projects.<\/p>\n<p>As in previous years, we partnered with free family history website <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/transcription-tuesday-2022-familysearch\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">FamilySearch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our volunteers transcribed 16,353 parish records from Blackburn in England, Lanarkshire in Scotland and County Antrim in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>For our second project, <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/transcription-tuesday-2022-hms-nhs\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">HMS NHS<\/a>, volunteers transcribed 453 records from London\u2019s Dreadnought Seaman\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Transcription Tuesday amarked the start of Part Two of the HMS NHS project, covering records from 1870 to 1930.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Salmon, archivist and curator of manuscripts at Royal Museums Greenwich, which runs HMS NHS, said: \u201cThe Transcription Tuesday volunteers have helped get Part Two of the project off to a flying start, bringing us several steps closer to unlocking these records and the medical mysteries they contain. Thank you from Royal Museums Greenwich for a marvellous effort!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In our partnership with <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/transcription-tuesday-2022-stories-of-st-jamess-burial-ground\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Stories of St James\u2019s Burial Ground<\/a>, volunteers transcribed 536 records from the 18th century London burial ground.<\/p>\n<p>For the final project, working with the <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/transcription-tuesday-2022-national-library-of-wales-photo-book-collection\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">National Library of Wales<\/a>, the volunteers were asked to help tag the library\u2019s collection of 19th century photographs. 114 tags were created altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Gwyneth Davies, National Library of Wales volunteers\u2019 coordinator, said: \u201cThe National Library of Wales is delighted that <em>Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine<\/em> staff chose one of our projects to be part of Transcription Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wonderful transcribers once again rose to the challenge, creating over one hundred tags for our 19th century Photo Books collection and so making it easier for everyone to discover the content of these beautiful photographs online.
