Records of deceased servicemen and women can be ordered by their next of kin for a \u00a330 fee.<\/p>\n<p>Since the covid-19 pandemic, record orders have been subject to <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/news\/mod-warns-army-service-records-delays\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">delays<\/a> of up to a year.<\/p>\n<p>TNA today confirmed that the first tranche of the records is now available on its website.<\/p>\n<p>The records are those in series WO 420 and relate to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers regiment.<\/p>\n<p>The records released today are of service personnel born more than 115 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the records in the series will be released over the next few days, but additional restrictions may apply to protect individuals\u2019 privacy.<\/p>\n<p>You can now access the records by searching for \u2018WO 420\u2019 in <a href=\"\/\/discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Discovery<\/a>, TNA\u2019s online catalogue, and browsing the record listings, which include each man\u2019s name, date of birth and service number.<\/p>\n<p>The records are not available online.<\/p>\n<p>To access a record, you must click \u2018Details\u2019 by the man\u2019s name and follow the instructions to order a record to view at TNA\u2019s buildings in London.<\/p>\n<p>The record will take four working days to prepare.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2021, the MOD began the process of transferring all 9.7 million historic service personnel records, which will take six years.<\/p>\n<p>The records include around 500,000 individuals with <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/12-best-websites-for-tracing-british-first-world-war-soldiers\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">First World War<\/a> service and the vast majority of those who served in the <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/tutorials\/military\/second-world-war-army-records\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Second World War<\/a>, as well as those who did National Service.<\/p>\n<p>TNA also said that the military service records would eventually be digitised and it was \u201ccurrently undertaking a procurement exercise to appoint a digitisation partner\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Rosemary Collins is the staff writer of<\/em> Who Do You Think You Are?
