Every year, thousands of family history records are transcribed by volunteer-led online projects. All you need to transcribe is a computer or laptop with an Internet connection and some ability to read <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/feature\/old-handwriting\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">old handwriting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Transcription Tuesday?<\/h2>\n<p>Transcription Tuesday is <em>Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine<\/em>\u2019s annual online volunteer event for family historians. While the growth of online <a href=\"\/\/www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com\/getting-started\/choosing-the-best-genealogy-subscription-website\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">family history websites<\/a> has made many records more accessible, millions of important historic documents that could be the key to tracing someone\u2019s ancestor still only exist in paper form.<\/p>\n<p>We first launched Transcription Tuesday in 2017. Every year since then, our readers have come together online to support a variety of not-for-profit transcription projects. It\u2019s a great way to practice your family history skills, and the records often tell fascinating stories of ordinary people\u2019s lives in history.<\/p>\n<h2>When is Transcription Tuesday 2023?<\/h2>\n<p>Transcription Tuesday 2023 will take place on <strong>31 January 2023<\/strong> \u2013 volunteers from outside the UK are welcome to join at any time on that date in your time zone!<\/p>\n<h2>How do I take part in Transcription Tuesday?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Unlike in previous years, you do not need to register on our website to take part in Transcription Tuesday.<\/strong> You just need to choose the project you want to support and follow the instructions on our website to take part.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d love to hear how you\u2019re getting on, so please share your experiences, any interesting stories you uncover and photographs of you at work by <a href=\"\/\/wdytyaeditorial@immediate.co.uk&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener noopener noreferrer\" noreferrer=\"\">email<\/a>, on our <a href=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/wdytyareadergroup\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener noopener noreferrer\" noreferrer=\"\">Facebook group<\/a>, or on Twitter with <a href=\"\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23transcriptiontuesday&amp;src=typed_query\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener noopener noreferrer\" noreferrer=\"\">#TranscriptionTuesday<\/a>.
